My brother left for a work trip Sunday, but since we were in Arkansas I wasn't able to take him to the airport. To keep him from having to take out a loan to pay for the parking when he gets back, we went and picked up his truck from the airport and brought it back to our house.
Now, keep in mind that Greg and I own a Taurus and a Mustang coupe, neither of which are going to win any biggest-car-wins showdowns at a yeild sign. So imagine little old 5'3" me driving down I-20 in this monster:
Oh yeah. I could take on just about anybody. Driving too slow in front of me? Look out, your little compact is nothing more than a speedbump in this thing! Feel the power!
Greg had to boost me up to get me in the thing after I fell out the first time (and lost a shoe in the process). I joked about driving it to work today, but I knew I'd never get in and out of a parking space.

You're scaring me. :)
I was scaring myself. You'll be happy to know that the monster will stay parked until big brother gets home! We've been contemplating buying a smaller SUV in a year or two, but now I'm wondering if that's a good idea...
I'm barely five foot myself. My first brand new car was a 1996 Ford Tauras. I LOVED that car. The new body style rocked!
Then I kept that 18 months and traded up to a Ford Explorer. I being to get addicted to the power of being up high and mighty.
So 2 years later I bought a Ford Expedition. I loved that vehicle. I would still be driving it if it didn't start having mechanical troubles. It had 130,000 miles on it but they were very hard miles.
I would still be in a bigger one but I bought a new car at the crux of high gas prices. The gas in that expedition was killing me. So I went 'down' to a compact SUV (2007 Saturn Vue).
The week before I bought the Vue, I test drove a Hummer H3. OMG!! That car was so freaking fun to drive. I almost bought it. But hubby already had it on his 'wish list'. I figured we didn't need TWO Hummers.
Now hubby is leaning toward Pontiac Soltise. Completely opposite direction.
I wish I had a Toyota Prius as many miles as I drive.
How is Greg? Wasn't he under the weather yesterday?
My first car was a 1981 Pontiac Bonneville (older than me) and it had a V8 engine. I swear the thing drove itself - it was a ugly white hoopty, but when I got behind the wheel!! Man oh man! Don't even try and screw with me. I don't need a big vehicle, I get power drunk. The pine tree I clipped would have testified to that - but GP cut the timber where it sat - my dad said it was because they were afraid I'd take it all out before they could cut it! =)
I'm now the proud owner of a Toyota Corolla. It's a 4 cylinder but it's been a great little car and I've had it for 5 years.
Super Mom - How funny! The first car I bought on my own was also a 1996 Taurus, which I traded in 2004 for my current 2003 Taurus! The only reason we're looking to upgrade is because we know we can't put a car seat in the back of the Mustang, which we hope will be a problem in the next few years. I can't imagine driving a Hummer. I can barely park my Taurus. And I couldn't dream of spending that much moola on a car. The idea of driving a small SUV makes me nervous!
And Mayberry, my first car, a hand-me-down yellow 1968 Mustang, also made friends with a pine tree. Luckily it was a rather solid car, so I only tore up the rear end. Anything I have driven since would have been totalled.
Oh, and Greg is better today. Had to make a meeting in Stone County today, so he really didn't have a choice.
the H3 is very reasonable compared to the H2. When you are comparing a Ford Expedition to a H3 and there is little difference in price... you tend to think...hmmmm.
Well, the Saturn is a far cry from the H3. But it WAS fun to drive.
I can't tell you how many times I ran into the wall of the garage parking that expedition. That drywall was spackled more than Elizabeth Taylor's face.
If they cost more than my $10,200 Taurus, then I'd have to give it serious thought. Our plan is to save up enough to be able to sell the Mustang and take the money from that, plus the car fund, and buy something around $15,000-$17,000. I don't think the H3 would qualify. Or the H 1/2. Or even just the U. or the M...
Besides, my carport isn't big enough. As it is now, I can barely get the passenger door of the Mustang open enough to squeeze out. If I had a Hummer I'd have to climb out the back.
If I had a Hummer I'd have to climb out the back.
That just gave me a really funny visual. Gigantic SUV, teeny Susan clamoring to get out.
Wouldn't be the first time. I was raised to be a redneck at heart. I've climbed in and out of all kinds of large vehicles/heavy equipment!
